NEWEST GOLD STAR CHILI OPENS IN WASHINGTON COURT HOUSE

WASHINGTON COURT HOUSE, OHIO - (March 16, 2004) - Gold Star Chili is now serving its famous Cincinnati-style chili in Washington Court House.

Jim Rosendahl, owner of the Washington Court House Gold Star Chili, invited the Washington Senior High Research History Class to "take over" the brand new location as his official first customers on the evening of March 15 for a special grand opening dinner and celebration. The restaurant opened to the general public on March 16, 2004.

Gold Star Chili’s Team Take Over program rewards organizations that have achieved success and contributed to their communities. The Research History Class is led by Paul LaRue and was started in 1998. The classes’ past projects have included the Underground Railroad and United States Colored Troops. The class has successfully created the websites usctohio.org and usctcw.org to share its research with the public.

This year’s class is working on several projects including:

  • Identifying Civil War burial sites of unmarked United States Colored Troops,
  • Working to get an Ohio historical Marker for Soldier’s Row in Washington Cemetery,
  • Recording the personal histories of World War II veterans, and
  • Collaborating with Ohio’s Bicentennial Commission to produce a publication of Ohio’s African American Civil War Heritage.

John Sullivan, chief executive of Gold Star Chili, led the grand opening celebration by recognizing the Research History Class for their achievements. He also congratulated Jim Rosendahl and his staff on a successful opening and expressed Gold Star Chili’s excitement about becoming a part of the Washington Court House community.

The new Washington Court House Gold Star Chili is located at 1387 Leesburg Avenue. The new restaurant seats more than 82 and features a drive-thru window. The new restaurant also features an expanded menu in addition to traditional Gold Star Chili favorites.
