CHILDREN TO LEARN ABOUT FIRE SAFETY FROM THEIR LOCAL FIRE FIGHTERS AT

GOLD STAR CHILI FIRE FIGHTER EDUCATION NIGHT

CINCINNATI, Ohio - (November 1, 2002) - Gold Star Chili announces its Fire Fighter Education Night (FFEN), a new effort this year that enables local fire fighters to encourage fire prevention and safety among young children through neighborhood restaurants.

Scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 12, from 5 to 7 p.m., FFEN is the only region-wide, coordinated effort of its kind and will include fire fighters from more than 60 fire houses in Hamilton, Butler, Warren, Clermont, Boone, Kenton and Campbell counties, as well as fire fighters from Cincinnati Fire Fighter Union Local 48. Other surrounding counties will also be participating.

"Gold Star Chili has been partnering with fire fighters and supporting fire safety initiatives for many years," said John Sullivan, chief executive officer of Gold Star Chili. "Fire Fighter Education Night is a natural extension of our efforts. I’m proud to be the only retailer in the tri-state able to offer this first-of-its-kind, region-wide effort to promote fire safety."

Fire Fighter Education Nights will take place at 73 restaurants. Coordinators expect to reach more than 3,500 tri-state families through the initiative.

Fire fighters are developing family-oriented agendas that focus on fire safety during the holiday season, such as common fire hazards as dry Christmas trees, and many departments are planning to bring education materials and fire fighting equipment. FFEN will be held in conjunction with the Nov. 12 Kid’s Night. Because kids age 10 and under eat free when accompanied by an adult who purchases a combo each Tuesday evening, Gold Star Chili can assure strong attendance as well as a great family night for customers with young children.
