Gold Star Chili to Donate Proceeds to Leukemia-Stricken Retired Firefighter
Local 3412 Firefighter Benefit Fund to receive percentage of sales from Western Hills location on April 30
CINCINNATI, OH-April 23, 2008 - Gold Star Chili will be demonstrating its support for local retired firefighter, Bill Donovan, by donating 10 percent of the day's sales from its Western Hills location on Wednesday, April 30, to the Local 3412 Firefighter Benefit Fund.
Bill "Gumby" Donovan, 53, was diagnosed with acute myelogenous leukemia this past December. Gold Star and the Professional Firefighters Association are raising money to help alleviate the Donovan's financial burden and to help him get the best care possible. The Gold Star Chili location in Western Hills, at 6176 Glenway Avenue, will be open from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m., and will be accepting donations to the Fund in addition to Gold Star's contribution.
Donovan, a father and grandfather, is also a well-known championship chili chef who will be seen cooking up his famous recipe on the Travel Channel show, Taste of America with Mark DeCarlo on April 30th.
"We're proud of the opportunity to work with the Professional Firefighters Association and Donovan who along with Gold Star-shares a deep passion for chili," said Mickey Kamfjord, local store marketing director for Gold Star Chili. "We appreciate the critical service that our firefighters provide to our communities and are glad to provide our support."
Gold Star Chili is a local leader in fire prevention and education initiatives, sponsoring the Safe Summer Nights program in conjunction with the Cincinnati Fire Department, the Fire and Life Safety Camp at the annual Child Wellness Fair, and hosting Fire Fighter Education Night at retail locations across greater Cincinnati.
