Cincinnati Icon Gold Star Chili Ramps Up as Official Chili of the 2007 AVP Cincinnati Open
Kicks off professional sand volleyball tournament with Cincinnati Open ticket giveaway; Honors Olympic gold medalists

CINCINNATI, OH – August 20, 2007 – Gold Star Chili, a Cincinnati icon and official chili of the Pringles Smart Flavors 2007 Cincinnati Open, is giving fans the chance to see their favorite AVP players in action. Professional beach volleyball enthusiasts are encouraged to visit www.goldstarchili.com/AVP for a chance to win six free tickets and the opportunity to attend a “Meet and Greet” with AVP players. The winner will be announced on Monday, August 27.

“Professional beach volleyball is one of the fastest growing spectator sports in America,” said Lori Busse Hubbard, director of marketing for Gold Star Chili. “Eating Gold Star Cheese Coneys and 3-Ways has been part of Cincinnati spectator sports for more than 40 years.  We are pleased to be able to pair the two together at this exciting event.”

Gold Star will recognize last year’s AVP women’s tournament winners, fan favorites and 2004 Olympic gold medalists, Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh with Gold Star keepsakes.  Gold Star will also recognize last year’s AVP men’s tournament winners, Todd Rogers and Phil Dalhausser.

Fans attending the tournament can expect a crowd favorite: the Gold Star Chili gift card sand dig. Gold Star will also encourage the crowd to participate in a “Fan of the Game” contest in which the winning fan will receive free Cheese Coneys for the whole row.

"Gold Star is excited to be the official chili of the Cincinnati Open," said Busse Hubbard. “The tournament is the perfect way to end summer – with sand, volleyball and a hearty helping of Cincinnati chili.”

ABOUT GOLD STAR CHILI
Gold Star Chili, the official chili of the Cincinnati Bengals, was established in 1965 when the four Daoud brothers were embarking on a journey that would soon embody the Great American Dream of owning a successful business. The first Gold Star Chili was located in Mt. Washington, and it was here that the brothers settled on what has become one of Cincinnati's classic tastes, and the recipe for Cincinnati-style chili was born. To this day, the spice blend is a closely guarded secret. Gold Star now has more than 100 restaurants located throughout Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana and operates concessions at Paul Brown Stadium, Children's Hospital, and the Greater Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport.
