Today, Gold Star Chili surprised the Fort Mitchell Fire Department (FMFD) with the Greater Cincinnati Fire House of the Year Award, the only award of its type in the region. Each year, Gold Star recognizes a fire department that dedicates a significant amount of time to promoting fire safety and prevention in their community.
Fort Mitchell was selected from more than 20 nominations. The department’s outstanding fire prevention education programs and unrivaled team spirit made them a clear winner this year. More than 12 of Fort Mitchell’s fire fighters have served 20 years or more, one even serving 40 years.
Until this morning, FMFD was unaware that they won the award. To inform the team, Fort Mitchell Fire Chief Scott McVey called a mysterious mandatory meeting where the president of Gold Star and the mayor of Fort Mitchell surprised the winning house with a plaque and a check for $2,000. Fire Chief Scott McVey and the rest of the Fort Mitchell Fire Department are very proud of the award and promise to continue educating the public on the importance of fire safety.
Gold Star Chili has been a local leader in fire prevention and education initiatives for the past 15 years, sponsoring Super Safety Saturday with the American Red Cross, Safe Summer Nights with the Cincinnati Fire Division and Fire Fighter Education Night with more than 60 fire houses in the Greater Cincinnati area. |
